Fighting with Mom and Dad? Feeling they just don’t ‘get’ you? Do you ever feel you just can’t take it anymore and sometimes want to escape? Maybe you’re not in that place at all and things are going great. And if so, that’s awesome! If not, know you’re not alone and that things will get better. It’s all a part of this whole family thing. But you know, without families, we just wouldn’t be here. So I guess they’re a good thing, right?
Anyway, it’s totally NOT fun to feel misunderstood . . . feeling your parents don’t love you . . . that they really aren’t on your side. Well, I’ve got news for you. Just don’t believe it! Not for one second! Because it’s just not true! Know that they do love you. And they truly want what’s best for you. Even when it doesn’t feel like it.
You know that God loves you. He even hand-picked your parents, just for you. Just like your heavenly father loves you, so do your earthly parents.
So what do you do when you’re feeling angry and upset and misunderstood? In John 15:12, God tells us to “love one another.” And that includes your parents. Even when it’s hard and things don’t seem fair. That means just talking things out and working it out, knowing they truly are on your side. So just do it, because you’ll feel better and they’ll feel better and good things will happen when you do.
And the next time you feel like fighting? Just remember what God has said, and have a pillow fight instead.
