Yay for Snow!

Hey, tween girls! So January’s usually the month for snow . . . LOTS, that is! It’s the snowiest month for most major cities that usually get snow. Even though we’ve hardly gotten much here, it’s finally been coming down. How about for you?

Snowflakes are amazing . . . as light as a feather, but can stop traffic, too! I love how sparkly and intricate and glistening they are, and that no two are alike!

I loved growing up in Minnesota with all the snow and snow days from school! After a blizzard, there’d be a huge drift in front of our living room window where the snow would pile high. I also loved those gentle snowfalls, not even minding it being 20 below, too!

Whether it’s making snow angels, snow forts, or snowmen, or skiing and sledding, or just watching a snowfall, how about taking a second to stop and reflect on God’s wondrous creation! And for those who love winter, yay!!! Enjoy the snow! And if not much has yet fallen this month, I hope it does soon!

Merry Christmas!

What a wonderful time of year! Spending weeks getting ready for Christmas, decorating the tree, finding those perfect gifts for your family and friends, baking fun goodies, gazing at Christmas lights all over town. I love thinking on those special Christmas memories when we were little, too! How about you?

Here are a few of mine . . .

1.) My parents had given each of us three kids a tiny fake tree, and the little colored bulbs would light up with a switch. I’d put it by my bed on Christmas Eve with the lights on all night, and it was just so special to me. I’d love waking up in the middle of the night, looking at it, too.

2.) My mom would bake tons of yummy cookies and candy all month, and I’d sneak a few every time I walked by. Her English toffee was the best!

3.) Probably like you, we couldn’t wait to get up and get the ‘ok’ to see what Santa had left. Besides lots of fun stuff in our stockings, there’d always be an orange, penny, and ribbon candy in it, too.

4.) I loved the candlelight Christmas Eve service at church, hearing the Christmas story and singing favorite Christmas songs, celebrating Christ’s birth. It was so beautiful and joyful to me.

5.) I also loved all the colorful, different sized and shaped, fancy wrapped presents under the tree, but especially loved Jesus being the greatest gift of all!

So what are your faves?

Merry Christmas to you!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hey, tween girls . . . Wishing a Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family and friends. As you take a moment to focus on all that you’re thankful for, may it be a joy-filled wonderful day!

It’s Make a Difference Day!

Hey tween girls! Did you know you were created to make a difference in this world? That God, your creator, has a purpose for your life? And if you don’t know what it is, make sure you’ve invited Jesus into your heart as that’s how you connect with God, and then ask, and He’ll tell you. Just listen to your heart, and know it’s what you love to do and makes you, YOU! And how cool is that?!

So what things do you love doing that can help others, too? How about making a list . . .

  • Helping an elderly neighbor by washing their windows or raking leaves in their yard
  • Baking cookies or other goodies and selling them and donating the money to an animal rescue center
  • Spreading joy in your neighborhood by setting up a free lemonade or hot chocolate stand whether you live in warm places or cold

I’m sure you can come up with more!

There’s just nothing better than making someone’s life better and putting a smile on their face.

So have a happy Make a Difference Day, and hope you do exactly that! In fact, how about even doing so every day after that?!

It’s National Dance Day!

So who doesn’t love to dance??!! I mean… really! And there are so many great songs to dance to, too! Whether it’s jazz, swing, ballet, or whatever, it’s all just so fun! My fave is rock and roll. How about you? My dad was a great dancer, and I loved dancing with him when I was little. He had his own dance band, too!

In my book, The Heart to Dance, 12-year-old Alexis loves to dance, and jazz dance is her favorite. Even though she’s danced since she was four, she longs to dance with the world renowned Dance Company, but didn’t make her last audition. Since then, she’s worked long and hard for the upcoming one, but sprains her ankle two weeks before and is devastated once again. Will she recover and make it this time?

I invite you to pick up a copy at http://www.joannecurrence.com to find out!

So Happy National Dance Day, and I hope that you celebrate and dance the day away, too!

It’s National Beach Day!

Hi there, tween girls . . . It’s National Beach Day today!

So when’s the last time you went to the beach? Or maybe you live close by!

Hoping you might love the beach, like me. I love beaches anywhere, having grown up in Minnesota with its 10,000 lakes! Although the tropics are my fave with white sugar sand, palm trees, the roaring of waves, and barefoot walks at sunrise or sunset or anytime in between! It’s fun watching young children building sand castles, finding cool shells, and burying their feet in the sand with joyful screeches and screams, and even you, too!

Another amazing creation of God, and there’s just nothing better… wouldn’t you agree??!!

So Happy National Beach Day to you! And if you can’t be at the beach today, how about planning your next trip there, and how exciting is that??!!

Happy World Chocolate Day!

It’s World Chocolate Day… Yay!!!

So who doesn’t love chocolate? Can’t imagine, can you?

For all of you chocolate lovers, what’s your fave? Mine’s chocolate mousse, although it’s hard to pass up a chocolate cake doughnut or a hot fudge sundae, too!

Maybe you know chocolate comes from South America and Africa, another one of God‘s wonderful creations, and that dark chocolate, especially, is good for you, too.

So isn’t that great there’s a special day to celebrate it! I hope that you do with your absolute fave, and Happy World Chocolate Day to you!

It’s World Rainforest Day!

The rainforest . . . that’s one place I’ve never been . . . How about you? Another one of God’s wondrous creations, known for their lush forests and tree canopies with millions of plants and tons of rain, and no forest fires, either! I love all the animals there, too. God thought of everything!

My fave are the monkeys. What’s yours? They are just so human-like and so funny and cute!

So where are these rainforests? There are actually ten of them, in Asia, Africa, South America, Central America, and many on the Pacific Islands, too. And what is this day about, anyway? Well, it’s to help raise awareness about protecting and preserving them, since a few things they provide are freshwater and oxygen, along with being an amazing part of nature, too!

So how about keeping your mind on this beautiful creation of God as we celebrate World Rainforest Day, and have a lovely day!

It’s National Fitness Day!

Hey, tween girls! Do you like keeping fit? I hope so, as everything works better when you’re keeping yourself fit… your energy, that glow in your face, the way your clothes fit. And besides, it’s just fun!

So what are your faves? Running, rollerblading, dancing, or cheer, or maybe even some walkovers in the backyard? There are lots of ways to keep fit, for sure!

If it’s not really your thing, it’s just about getting your body moving, that’s all. So just for fun, how about making a list? Maybe riding a bike, or hiking on a fun trail, or walking around a lake. Whatever you come up with, I’m sure you’ll love it once you start up!

And if you’re not where you’d like to be, you could set some small goals. Whether you work out alone or with bunches of friends, you’re sure to have fun!

So Happy National Fitness Day, and remember that everything’s better when you’re feeling more fit!

It’s National Library Day!

What would we do without books??!!

I hope you love them like I do . . . where you can go different places and explore the world, or get involved in a mystery, figuring out the next clue, or go on a fun adventure with someone just like you.

How about going to your library today and picking up a fun book or two or three and escaping for an afternoon, cozying up in your favorite spot?!

I hope you just might do that, and have a happy day!
